Brief: How can design make classic books engaging and appealing to a new, digitally native audience?, 2022.
I redesigned 3 sci-fi classic books for Vintage Classics. The books include Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, The Day Of The Triffids by John Wyndham and The Female Man by Joanna Ross. I tried to visualise the occurring theme of rejection in the books by photographing iron filings, unifying them as a series.

Frankenstein is inspired by a target or a ripple to show the Monster's isolation in the novel.
The Female Man is visualised by the Celtic symbol of unity and connectedness as the 5 characters are ultimately as 1.
The Day of the Triffids was created by experimenting with the iron filings. I perceive them as being almost plant or even alien like.
For a promotional element I decided to create a series of GIFs for Instagram. As my audience is new and digitally native, creating advertisements on social media is well suited. I combined my photographs from my book covers with kinetic type.
